RW Ventures works with private and non-profit organizations on all stages of business, product and institutional development.
This line of work often begins with an "innovation scan" - deeply examining through interviews, literature review and original data collection developments in a specific market place or subject area, in order to identify opportunities for innovation (whether new products, services or institutions). This stage is followed by detailed product development and business planning, then working with clients to roll out the new product or organization.
A scan for the Ford Foundation of dramatic changes in the financial services sector, with a focus on opportunities to use new technologies to profitably extend financial services to the underbanked, resulted in the creation of the Center for Financial Services Innovation.
A scan of the retail sector and its location dynamics resulted in the creation of MetroEdge (now LISC-MetroEdge), as well as a new line of business for Social Compact.
A scan of the opportunities to use new information resources to drive market-based economic development, conducted for Living Cities, led to the conception, detailed business planning and roll out of the Urban Markets Initiative.
The firm also engages in the development of specific products, such as the innovative tools that are being created for the Dynamic Neighborhood Taxonomy project. We are currently designing an "innovation network" focused on systematic R&D for the economic development field.
RW Ventures also works with several early stage technology companies, providing business services ranging from strategic and business planning to finance. An example of this line of business is our work with Leveler Protective Technologies.
